The Greatest Of All Time?

ImageJust the other day I was telling a mate how I’ve become a huge Oasis fan over the years. I grew up listening to their music, and was absolutely devastated when they broke up (still today I’d do anything for them to reform!). Continue reading

Why Shola Ameobi holds a place in Geordie hearts

Shola Ameobi is no stranger to being on the end of stick from certain sections of Newcastle United’s fanbase – but the moment he fired the ball into the Sunderland net there wasn’t one complaint from anybody who follows the black and whites.

Sometimes, Shola has perhaps endured too much stick down the years when donning the shirt of the club he clearly loves. Continue reading

21st Century Frankenstein

Lately I’ve been getting back into reading some Gothic classics, one in particular I enjoy is Frankenstein which I’ve read on numerous occasions. I got kinda bored the other afternoon and thought it might be fun trying to adapt the novel as if Frankenstein lived in our society, below is what I came up with. . oh and it’s like a diary entry first person thing, you’ll see.

News Piece Example

Hey guys, as you may already know I study journalism at Edinburgh Napier Uni. This week I thought I would put into practise what I have learned so far and gather a fresh news story to write up. Below is a rough draft, any feedback is appreciated;

NUFC – Fallen giants or the best of the rest?

by Christopher Martin

So we’re 7 weeks into the new EPL campaign and it’s been absolutely fantastic viewing, the standard of football has been higher than ever. There has been so much to discuss; from the impact Manchester City’s multi-million pound signings are starting to have, to the lacklustre form Arsenal have endured. But amongst all the press coverage the bigger clubs are getting, one side has gone unnoticed in climbing the Premier League table; Newcastle United. In fact Newcastle are enjoying their longest unbeaten run in 14 years after Saturday’s 2-1 win over Wolves. Continue reading

Facebook, I don’t even recognise you anymore

by Christopher Martin

So I had gotten home from uni, logged onto my computer, opened Facebook, logged in, and BAM, wow, right, what is this? I mean it says Facebook in the top left corner of the window, but this cannot be right. I mean there is so much junk, so much irrelevant information splashed across the screen, I must have entered the incorrect URL or something.

Well at first glance those were my thoughts, and having spent around 3 or 4 hours on the “new” Facebook, “new” meaning an inadequate waste of web space, I still can’t say I’ve taken very kindly to it. In all honesty, I can’t say I think my opinion will change in the near future. The features which had been gradually integrated into Facebook in the past, such as the chat function, and the ability to video call, were useful, unquestionably. In fact I welcomed those with open arms, the adjustment, for me at least, was immediate. But I can’t help but think the changes made to Facebook in the last 24 hours have made any form of difference to the level of enjoyment I have or the ease of sociability there is when using the site. So, what exactly was it that riled me enough to write this blog I hear you say. Well I’ll tell you, I promise I won’t swear, or at least I’ll try. Continue reading

Where Is The Morality?

Having just read this news article on the BBC News website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-14957098) I am shocked and appalled at what I’ve read. I cannot believe that a mother would be so irresponsible, so heartless, and so downright mindless to disown her own newborn child. Every child deserves a decent upbringing, and if assuming the woman in question does not claim responsibility of her son, then Charlie (as the nurses have named him) will struggle to find his feet in this world. I hope for his sake that his mother does the right thing and takes Charlie under her wing, surely she must realise what a terrible thing she has done by leaving him on his own.

Of course there’s every possibility that she could have a mental illness, and if this is the case then she clearly needs help and support to raise the child (if she’s fit enough to do so). Charlie needs a mother who can support, care and love him, and if she does have poor mental health then she may be incapable of looking after him. Illness or no mental illness, I hope she is tracked down for the sake of her son, and I hope she is given all the support and help she needs to help give Charlie what every child needs; a good childhood.
